Alicante airport is situated 9 kilometres southwest of the capital, in the municipality of Elche, in one of the most dynamic, up and coming business and economic zones on the Mediterranean coast. The essential role played by tourism is reflected in the percentage of international passenger flights that this airport handles and which make up eighty percent of the total. Most of these passengers are from the United Kingdom, Germany and the Netherlands. Scheduled domestic traffic has also increased in recent years. Madrid, Barcelona and Palma de Mallorca are the three most popular destinations.
To update its facilities to meet the demands of greater traffic, in March 2011 the New Terminal Area of the airport was opened.
In 2010, Alicante Airport handled 9,382,935 passengers, 74,474 flight operations and 3,112 tonnes of cargo. |
Murcia-San Javier Airport is located on the north shoreline of the Mar Menor, in the district of Santiago de la Ribera, belonging to the town of San Javier. It is an air station open to civil traffic.
The airport has become an essential node in holiday and leisure transport that arrives and departs from the Autonomous Community of Murcia. In order to increase its capacity to serve commercial flights and, therefore, boost its activity, in recent years Aena has made significant investments that have resulted in various projects: the construction of a second runway, a new control tower, the expansion of the departure area of the passenger terminal, the aircraft parking platform for commercial and public parking and a new power plant.
In 2010, the Murcia-San Javier airport handled 1,349,333 passengers, 13,474 flight operations and 2.6 tonnes of cargo. |
